Wolverine Goes Solo in X-Men Origins: Wolverine

Empire magazine has just released a photo showing actor Hugh Jackman baring his claws as the enigmatic Wolverine in order to promote an upcoming movie which places the adamantium wielding superhero on the center spotlight.

As diehard fans know, this movie has long been on the conceptual stage, even before the release of the latest X-Men movie, X-Men: The Last Stand.  And so after a considerable amount of waiting, fanatics and movie goers alike are finally given a glimpse of things to come.  Directed by Gavin Hood (better known from his films such as the internationally acclaimed film, Tsotsi ), X-Men Origins: Wolverine , set to release May 1, 2009, will also feature Liev Schrieber, Ryan Reynolds, Taylor Kitsch, Will. I. Am, Danny Hutson, Dominic Monaghan, Daniel Henny, and Lynn Collins.

The story will most likely follow the development of one the most rebellious, individualistic, and at times ironical (an individualist who works with a group?) character ever to exist in the Marvel universe.  Viewers should expect a rather convoluted thrill ride as they follow Wolverine’s aka Logan’s, humble Canadian beginnings.  Before deciding to join the X-Men, Wolverine was part of an inhumane experiment dubbed Weapon X.  It was during that time when he was given his adamantium (a virtually indestructible type of metal) bone structure.  It seemed that he was one of the few who could survive this physiological alteration due to his natural mutant ability of accelerated healing process, which also renders him immune from any diseases and natural aging for that matter.  In any case, viewers should expect a lot of plot twists and revelations which will also add some spice to the already weary X-Men saga.

The Cast of Friends To Return in Big Screen Movie Adaptation

After seeing the success of Sex and the City with its silver screen endeavor, Jennifer Aniston finally gave the go signal to Warner Brothers for the production of Friends the Movie, which will be out 18 months from now.

Some of you may ask, why is Jennifer Aniston the one to follow in this great, possible million-dollar idea? Why is she the queen bee whilst the rest of the cast are equally talented and their characters are as important as hers. That’s because she has refused to do the movie before, and feeling jealous of Sarah Jessica Parker with what happened in Sex and the City, she changed her mind decided to go on with the movie project. The award-winning comedy series created by Martha Kauffman and David Crane about the lives of six Manhattan adults debuted on September 22, 2004, and since then the show has become a weekly prime time favorite all over the world. You probably still know all the cast members’ names and personalities and I bet you and your friends can watch a Friends marathon anytime. Chandler, Joey, Ross, Phoebe, Rachel and Monica’s indifferent humorous lifestyles became such a television staple that It was almost heartbreaking to watch the series finale.

All six of the cast members have agreed to play their respective roles accordingly, and if the script is done right, this might be one of the funniest movies ever made. I can’t believe it only took a simple high school-like jealousy to push the project through. Jennifer Aniston shouldn’t be jealous of SJP for anything, she still has a blossoming career, continuous blockbuster hits and John Mayer as a bot toy. It’s definitely not the looks, SJP’s face is like an Egyptian carving on the side of an ancient cave’s wall while Aniston has one of the most sought-after bodies in Hollywood.

If Sex and the City made it super big in the blockbuster, there’s no doubt that Friends will do better. It’s not only the funniest series ever produced, it also had a TV running period long enough for a teenager to tell her daughter about it 8 years later, when she graduates from college and did everything else. I can imagine all the twenty-something or thirty-something year-old fans getting all excited to see the movie, and we’re definitely thrilled to witness Central Perk’s famous couch gang in the big screen.

Steven Sodeberg Raises the Bar

Academy Award Winning director Steven Sodebergh will direct Girlfriend Experience, a feature based on a $10,000 a night prostitute’s vantage point. Brian Koppleman and David Lebien, the pair responsible for the screenplay of Ocean’s Thirteen will write the screenplay of this intriguing feature.

The recent scandal involving New York governor Elliot Spitzer and class-A escort Ashley Dupree has created a huge media frenzy and political issues causing the resignation of the governor, making this a huge factor into Sodebergh’s current project.Rather than casting Hollywood superstars, Sodebergh has announced that he’ll use adult movie stars for added impact.

The film will be produced and financed by Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner, partners for 2929 Entertainment through their label HDNet. Girlfriend Experience will be the second film that Sodebergh directs under their low-budgeted 12-movie contract. Though the films may be low-budgeted, the distribution to theaters, television, internet and DVDs will be wide enough to gain huge amounts of profits and distinction. No updates regarding casting and start of production are released yet.

Shia LeBouf Goes Inside the Dark Fields

The film adaptation of Alan Glynn’s The Dark Fields will be directed by Neil Burger starring talented actor Shia LaBouf. The plot revolves around a loser boy (LaBouf) who discovers a pharmaceutical drug that can make you smarter. The character receives a sudden heap of wealth, success and fame but soon experiences the lasting side effects of the powerful drug.

The movie’s lead Shia LaBouf has been consistently receiving major and noteworthy roles, such as in Transformers and Indiana Jones alongside Harrison Ford and Cate Balnchett. He also starred a supporting role with Keannu Reeves in Constantine. Long before bagging huge parts in Hollywood, he was the lead in Disney Channel’s Even Stevens, a comedy series about a suburban brat who deals with his uncanny family.

It is said that the movie will have aesthetics akin to Fight Club; dark, witty and intense. Producing the movie are Leslie Dixon and Scott Kroopf.
